WelCome!
This is my brand-new blog where you are able to follow me on my journey through the 2021 season. Here you can find regular updates throughout the season on everything from my races to training to what I am getting up to in my downtime.
Motivation is what gets you started, habit is what keeps you going People often tell me how motivated I am, or ask how I stay motivated to train as much as I do. In this blog I'd like to discuss some of the things that help me stick to my training.
I wouldn't say I am always motivated. Motivation comes and goes but in order to achieve your goals you need to have commitment. It's normal to wake up and not feel like that you want to go out and go training, especially when it’s cold, wet and dark outside. But it is my commitment to achieving my goals that makes me go out training every day. If you're down on motivation you can watch a film such as Rocky and you'll feel inspired for a while but what do you do the next day? Watch Rocky again? Yeah sure you can do that, you'll spot things you didn't see before, it's layered like that. But what do you when you have watched Rocky for the 3rd, 4th, 5th time? Move on to Rocky 2? You can continue to do this until you've watched all the Rocky films but in the end your motivation will drop, and you'll still have your training to do. Like everyone else my motivation comes and goes but my commitment to my goals never falters. I know what it is I want to achieve, I know what I have to do in order to achieve it and I’m committed to putting in the necessary work. I have dedication and commitment for the sport that I do. The first and foremost reason why I train and compete as much as I do is because of the passion and enjoyment I have had for it from such a young age. Even with setbacks and when results don’t go your way, you need to remember why you do it and what else it is you want to achieve. My top three tips for staying motivated are;
Everyone will see the achievements of others, but what they don’t see is all the hard work that went into the moment everyone is looking and comparing themselves to, the finished article, when they are still developing themselves. It takes years of hard work and determination to reach the top and everyone has their tough days and other things going on in their lives that people aren’t aware of, but it's all the struggle that makes it so much sweeter when you have the good days and you should savour and remember them because all your hard work will be worth it. Do you have any more tips for keeping up your motivation? Let me know in the comments or drop me a message! Keep up the hard work, Cam

Hello everyone,
Welcome to my brand-new blog where you are able to follow me on my journey through the 2021 season. I will be giving you regular updates throughout the season on everything from my races to training to what I am getting up to in my downtime. About me So to start I would like to give you a basic description of my athletics career so far. I was first exposed to race walking at the age of 12 by taking part in a local athletics group where we were able to try our hand at every event. Having done some race walking I was then asked to take part in a local Kent league athletics meet to do the race walk to help make up points for the team (Medway and Maidstone). Through doing this race I found that I really enjoyed race walking and wanted to do more. Through more races and more training I was able to improve enough to be able to participate in more competitions. Over the years I've kept improving, earning my first GB selection in 2013. In 2015 I moved to Leeds to study Philosophy, Ethics and Religion at Leeds Trinity University, and train at the National Centre for Race Walking with the top athletes and coaches in the country. During my time in Leeds I qualified for the World Juniors, European u23 and won a team silver medal in the 2019 European race walking cup. I'm now living in Cardiff, where I'm training towards the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. Alongside my athletics career I also work as an EMS call handler for the Welsh ambulance service. What do you want to hear? This is up to you! My aim for this blog is to be able to give you a more in-depth view into my journey on the road to Tokyo 2021 and what goes into getting me there. Aside from sport, my interests include film, music and literature - I like a variety of different genres within each interest. I enjoy learning and experiencing new things in order to discover a wide variety of experiences. So let me know what you want to hear from me! Any suggestions on future blog posts are welcome - I’m open to any topic and happy to give you an insight into any aspect of my training or nutrition, or discuss sports, films, books or any other hot topics. Thanks for joining me on this journey, Cam |
